I've still got my head squarely in spring y'all. And as we finalize plans for a trip to Florida over the kids' spring break, the warm-weather jonesin' has heated up hotter than ever.
Last weekend the Al and the chiddren and I all drove down to the major shopping Mecca for us Chicago suburbanites and I got to feast my eyes on actual real retail-ia. It'd been awhile, and I'm afraid I may have gluttonized myself a tad bit. But you can't put a girl who's just lost ten pounds in a J. Crew dressing room and not expect her to lose her mind and half of her checking account on the spot, can you?
I pulled the trigger on the white denim matchstick jeans I talked about two weeks ago, and they're everything I wanted 'em to be and more. If you've never tried J. Crew denim before, I'd recommend doing that post haste. The fit, the styles, the colors. Oh Holy White, y'all, my buns and legs have never been so happy.
I also pulled the trigger on these little cuties. (They're available in several other colors, including some of the sporty neons that are so, so, so hot for spring. Welcome back to the 80s. Careful not to trip over my bangs.)
The toothpick jean in bright papaya, which I overlooked several times because, um ... "toothpick?" Does not sound remotely like sump'm that would work on my thundrous herd of thigh and buttage.
But oh. I put them on and the herd was instantly brought under yoke, sisters. And when I showed them to Al his eyes lit up like a Las Vegas casino. JACKPOT, toothpick.
To top those off, I invested in a perfect shirt in gingham. This one is a pretty lime green, but mine is a light turquoise check. Apparently that color's already sold out online. Go ME!
So now I'm in the market for cute sandals to finish off this outfit, and while these Kambria wedge sandals by Guess aren't the ones for this color scheme, I do love this style and oh, the color makes me grin and hop around like a happy little Easter bunny. Boing boing.
I hope I can find something similar in an appropriate (leather) color and perhaps a with a lower heel.
I totally fell for this little $28 bag by Roxy, available via Zappos.com, when I first happened across it. You can hardly miss it, right? I can see it over my shoulder this spring and summer at the farmers' market or park or pool. You can't have enough canvas bags that time of year, can you? Particularly when you've got a seven year old around who likes to pack for a week-long vacation to go down to the corner diner for breakfast. By the time this child is thirteen, Al's going to have to build a shed in the back yard for Bean's and my collection of handbags.
I've been drinking gallons of citrus- and cucumber-infused water lately as part of my little diet experiment. It makes me think I'm at the spa, despite the fact that the closest I ever get to a facial and a massage is Peabody kissing me sloppily on the nose while stealthily slinking a hand down my shirt to grab my night-nights.
I love, love, love the idea of this pretty glass pitcher with a built-in infuser from Target. I think it'd be lovely out on the back porch this summer, until it inevitably got smashed to bits by a wayward kite, kickball or sandy bucket. (Or a clumsy style-blogger wanna be wearing wedge sandals with ankle straps that cut off the circulation to her feet.)
Hope y'all have a wonderful, fun-infused weekend and that the blood flows freely to your extremities at all times.

I thought I was opposed to the color denim, but now it is growing on me. I think a skinny fit capri might work for me.
ReplyDeleteHooray for losing ten pounds! That is so great. I am hoping to lose about five pounds still. I need new jeans and capris because mine already don't fit, but I'm holding off for now.
I love what you are featuring here. So fun!
Thanks! The toothpick jeans featured here are "ankle" length, which can be a bit more flattering on non-treelike women than a pure capri as they span the length of your leg as opposed to doing that whole stop-and-chop thing. At first glance I thought "flood pants!" but once I had them on with a heeled shoe, they were flattering and fun.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like these picks! xo
Love all these colors! I know I am thinking spring! I found you from the Friday Fashion mingle. You can check out the dress I styled here:

Have a great weekend!
Cute dress! Loved it. Will poke around at Momtrends this weekend.. looks neat!
DeleteSuch cute clothes! I really love that bag. As you have probably noticed, I also pack just a tiny *ahem* bit much from time to time (alright, every time). It's an unfortunate side effect of my burning desire to be completely prepared for any contingency. I might have to hunt down your bags cousin. :)
ReplyDeleteI do hope - OH, I do so hope! - that we'll get pictures of you in these lovely finds. You better make that happen, friend.
ReplyDeleteAn infusing pitcher sounds like genius to me.
As soon as it gets warm enough, I promise. And you still owe pictures of you in the white ruffled blouse you found out thrifting, little missy!
DeleteI love those papaya matchstick jeans! ooooh boy! :-)
ReplyDeleteI just bought red ones (I KNOW) and I am in lurv!!!
I want the red ones too, but I needed to go try some on to see what size to order. They didn't have them in the store. I can't wait to see yours and how you style them!
DeleteOkay, you are giving me confidence, Megan. I inherited 7 or 8 pairs of super-skinny jeans and cords from my 19 year old daughter, and I've only worn the regular blue jeans and the black cords--3 pairs of them, and I live in them in the winter! They fit me like a glove, but I've been afraid that hot pink, purple, orange and kelly green don't work on a 40-something woman. But now that I know they are really called TOOTHPICK jeans, and I might not be alone in wearing them, maybe I will look for the right occasion! (Besides on stage--you'll get a kick of the pic of me in the hot pink ones here: http://atahenspace.blogspot.com/2011/08/amazing-joseph.html)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Megan! ;)
Jeanne
I think I remember that picture! I hope you do wear the colored ones - they are quite the thing right now and will be in the spring, as well. Kelly green looks like it's especially IN - try those with navy and/or gray... it will tone them down and grow them up some for you, but lose none of its fun!
DeleteYou don't have to give up on the infuser pitcher just because of wayward kites... I have one of these and I love it... it's great for lemon water, berry tea, and even sangria! The acrylic is much less breakable than glass.
