What I Wore Wednesday (My debut! Nervous as a cat in a room full of rockin' chairs, here!)

I have been following What I Wore Wednesday hosted by The Pleated Poppy, via Jo-Lynne at Musings of a Housewife for many long months and completely enjoying seeing what other "real women" wear on a daily basis. It's so inspiring and has tickled my desire to dig a little deeper fashion-wise than my standard mom-iform of whatever-jeans-are-clean and a v-neck t-shirt or sweater that hopefully doesn't have that little hole right in the hem in the middle of the front (do y'all get those little holes in your t-shirts?)

I would ramble on about how I've been really thinking and working to revitalize my entire look (mid-life crisis, anyone?), but I think I'll just show the photos for now. I think that's wise, since a few of you have probably never visited me before and HEY, LET ME WAIT A DAY OR TWO BEFORE I SHOW YOU HOW MUCH I LOVE THE SOUND OF MY OWN VOICE! Right?

How 'bout we look at some outfits, hmmm?

Last Thursday I wore something fairly far outside of my comfort zone. See, two years ago, if you'd ever told me I'd embrace the "bootie" and not only wear them, but wear them with my jeans rolled up, I'd tell you that you had the wrong idea about me.

Looking at these pictures, I'm not 100% sure that *I* don't have the wrong idea about me, but I'll keep my peanut-gallery commentary to myself.

Here I'm wearing a blush silky top from Old Navy (I also have the black and brown animal print versions on this top and I love all three. I don't see the animal print ones on-line anymore or I'd show you) un-buttoned to the naval area over a black cami. The jeans are Luckies that I bought aeons ago, and I have them rolled up to show off my black suede booties, because the booties have a cute bow embellishment at the ankle. Hard to show this detail in the pictures, though I did try for you! The booties are Oblique by Impo and they came from DSW.

All the jewelry in this outfit came from Old Navy, except my wedding ring and my watch, but you can't really see them, now can you? I keep looking at this and thinking "something is missing" and I realized I actually wore it most of the day with this chunky rainbow-of-greys cardigan that I recently bought on sale in-store at Gap, but can't find online.

Friday

Friday I tried another risky thing for me - I paired a black and white striped jersey t-shirt by POOF EXCELLENCE (T. J. Maxx find this year) (Bean has one in grey and white stripes, too! We are both very into stripes right now. I wish we could share clothes!) with a black jersey dress (several years ago from Target). I added a very old floral scarf for a pop of color and a denim jacket and my brown Audrey Brooke paddock boots from DSW last year. I would love to have worn a pair of purple tights under the dress, just for fun, but I don't actually have the right color purple tights so I wore some footless black leopard-print ones bought last year at Target. (Meow!)

Saturday

Hello Saturday! I've been wanting to try this lingerie-worn-as-clothing look for awhile but just haven't quite mustered the nerve. Saturday was a beautiful day and we were popping out to run a few errands and then coming home to play outside, so I thought if I started feeling like I'd lost all my marbles I could just come home and change before lunchtime. But I didn't. Because the truth is, I lost all my marbles a long time ago, and I really don't much care how crazy I look, as long as I'm enjoying myself. And I was really enjoying myself! I totally loved how the hem of the gown just peeked out a tiny bit, hinting at a flirty skirt but not quite being one. I kinda wanted to curtsy to everyone I saw. But I didn't. Because even us crazy-women have boundaries we don't cross. I did end up doing a bit of yard work in this outfit, and one of my neighbors yelled down to me, "You're doing yard work in a SKIRT?!" Needless to say, I didn't bother to yell back "NO NOT A SKIRT, A NIGHTGOWN, HONEY!" I just shrugged and showed him my shoes and he shook his head and went on about his business.

Yep, crazy or not, above I paired a Victoria's Secret (many moons ago) black satin negligee (can I say that out loud?) worn as a camisole with my Calvin Klein grey jeggings (oh yes I did) from T. J. Maxx and topped it off with a burgundy v-neck ribbed Pima cotton sweater from Eddie Bauer. Those shoes are from Target, last year I think, and do I get the compliments on those? If I had a nickle for every time someone has stopped me to squeal over those shoes, I could buy you and me both a new pair. You want some?

A close up of the necklaces. The heart pendant on a brown leather strap is from Old Navy, and I actually made the beaded necklace myself using these directions from ... Love Maegan (one of my newly-discovered favorite fashion-hair-DIY-inspiration blogs).

Monday

Monday was errand day that started out cool and then warmed up to the 70s later, so I paired a light-weight heather gray v-neck tee (my all-time favorite tee from the Gap - I buy truckloads of these things) with a spring green silk scarf, a four-year-old black corduroy jacket by Ann Taylor Loft (still looks brand new, I adore this jacket!) and a pair of straight-leg jeans from Talbots (last year). The black patent loafer is the Ariana Flat by Nickels, which I bought at DSW. The heart pin on the lapel of my jacket belonged my Grandmama FriedOkra and is one of my most cherished possessions. I have the matching clip on earrings, too.

Tuesday

Yesterday was Peabody's field trip with his pre-school to the local farm-store and pumpkin patch (and Al got to go too! We had such a great time!), so I went with my favorite Land's End skinny jeans from last year and my Audrey Brooke paddock boots for comfort and, oh, I dunno, "farminess?" On top I have layered a brown quilted jacket I got at Target five years ago (dry clean your jackets for longer wear and sharper lines) over a brown and red floral print dobby shirt that is currently on sale at Old Navy, which was then over a sequin-embellished brown EBC tank from Eddie Bauer (this past summer, it was online last week but seems to be gone now). That jade necklace is one that Al brought me back from Hong Kong when he was over there working on his MBA, way back when we were dating. I love wearing it with anything and everything!

And that's what I wore all week last week! So much fun...

I linked to as many of the things I wore that I could, but want to let you know these were all my own purchases for my own use and my links are not affiliate links with any of the stores mentioned.

  4. And again I say, "You are one hot mama!" Seriously, you look gorgeous, Megan. I'm glad you're documenting your fashionableness because I know for me, there are days when I feel like the biggest frumpy schlump on the planet, when in reality, I looked cute just 2 days ago. :) I doubt that kind of thought runs through everyone's heads, but if it does, here you have proof that you're gorgeous!

  7. Wow, you look awesome! And I know now I will never join in with this as I don't think my baggy sweatpants left over from pregnancy, long sleeved thermal top and holey sweatshirt quite measure up!! Me thinks it is time to update my wardrobe! :)

  9. What a bunch of great looks! You look fabulous and so do your outfits. You and Jo-Lynne might be inspiring me to step outside of my comfort zone but I would have to do a lot of shopping first - who wants to see pictures of me in my jeans and tee shirts?!

  12. Oh HELLO, friend! I am so (x 100) glad you joined in this week! Thank you for keeping me company in the nervous-to-be-doing-this thing.

    Thoughts:

    1) We need bigger pictures so we can see all of your lovely up close and personal like.

    2) You are really stunning. And not just outer attractiveness, though you have plenty of that. But you also just glow with inner beauty and presence of spirit. Gorgeous.

    3) Holy Moses is your hair ever long!

Thanks for taking the time to do this! Taking pictures of one outfit a week wears me out. I know you worked hard to get this posted!

  15. You look so adorable!! Love the outfits! By the way, love the creative shots you took. You definitely know how to use a camera to capture uniqueness!! Have to say, I am a little jealous that you can consistently wear fall clothing...but in winter, my jealousy will be gone. :)

  16. WOW, I love this project. I love seeing all the different colors, styles, combinations. They all look great on you! I love it best because I can try to picture new looks using similar tops/jeans/and jackets from my own closet. Now I'm all excited about my own "old" clothes again. Thanks! Would love to see this as often as you have time to post it! I can't be the only one. Thanks again!
